Combining agriculture and energy production to rebuild our society in a new way.
Project SLE, or Suburban Life Enhancers, will provide sustainable food and energy production to communities. This will be achieved by creating community garden centers that contain energy options such as solar and wind, which will power the center and provide surplus energy for use by the community.
Secondary purposes of the SLE's will be to provide cluster computing grids to be used in scientific research, electric car charging stations for public use and autonomous multicopter's to serve a variety of functions necessary to overcome the limitations of traditional community-based gardening.
Eventually the multicopters will even provide food and energy delivery straight to your doorstep.
The SLE's were designed with scalability in mind from the beginning.
From 1/4 acres to 1,000s of acres. The amount you scale up only increases the production of the services it provides to the surrounding communities.
Urban life enhancer's will be the scaled down version of our SLE's designed for urban life where land is limited (an example of an ULE would be a rooftop in a city). Conversely RLE's or rural life enhancers will be the scaled up version of the SLE for large scale production to serve the needs of tens of thousands of homes and hopefully even more in the future.
Understanding the main components of the SLE
1. Energy production.
Organizing for Humanity has looked at all energy production methods available and have given great consideration to each option, not only factoring into our manufacturing capabilities today but how we can expect manufacturing to effect cost in the near future.
Given the need for prefabbed energy production components to be scalable at all SLE sites and implemented in a variety of different topography's, conditions and climates, OFH has decided it will support the construction of wind and solar predominately at all SLE sites.
Wind turbines are currently the most efficient energy generation method and we expect solar photovoltaic production costs to continue plummeting at a significant rate. Solar thermal designs can enable energy production to continue 24/7 in areas where needed. Where such designs are not feasible, energy captured during the daylight hours can be stored in a combination of on-site battery banks and compressed air tanks that release during the night through pneumatically-driven generators.
The lithium-ion battery packs that will be built at the Tesla giga-factories are currently our preferred on-site battery solution.
2. Food production.
Food production at each SLE will vary depending on a variety of factors.
- The needs of the community being served
- The climate of the area
- The construction permitted by local laws
- The budget available for each site.
An OFH agricultural specialist will be assigned to oversee the design and construction of each site.
The primary food production at each site will be done in a "community garden" format.
A premium feature to supply operational funding and ensure return on investment will be custom tailored food personally grown for paying members. These will be produced in "leased plots" and cared for by multicopter and eventually, after the FAA has revised their rules (which we expect will happen within the next few years), our multicopters will deliver the harvest straight to their doorstep at the touch of a smartphone. The smartphone app will also serve a "baby monitor" style way for the paying member to babysit their plants from anywhere in the world 24/7.
3. Grid computing.
Each SLE facility will contain a grid computing cluster housed on-site and powered by a fraction of the energy produced at the facility. The excess processing power that is not used to control facility functions will be used for scientific research. As our facilities provide food and energy to the communities they serve, our grid computing clusters will provide back a valuable resource for humanity in helping to solve scientific problems such as cancer research, protein folding, advanced mathematical problems, SETI and other approved empirical research.
Scalability is designed into the very nature of grid computing by default so the amount of processing power installed at each facility will vary depending on how much energy output that facility can generate.
ULE's for example may only have 1-2 computers installed and little to no excess processing power to offer. It's reason for installation will be to provide the facility functions which will be explained. See: "Master Control Panel" below.
Meanwhile, standard SLE's designed for suburban usage can operate a more robust number of processors (sometimes even in the hundreds) to handle not only the facility functions but the ability to offer significant help to scientific research. Combined with all the other SLE's OFH will exponentially construct worldwide, we aim to create the worlds largest computing grid. This will be a strategic advantage to scientific research at large.
RLE's will be able to handle commercial quantum computing applications as well as huge grid computing arrays numbering in the thousands of processors. This will be an invaluable tool in our quest to build the singularity. See: Project Ayla.
Currently OFH plans to use the D-Wave commercial quantum computer in it's quantum computing applications.
4. Master control panel.
The master control panel will be the public interface used by the public and paying members to access the functions of the facility. A computer program will monitor the facility, including it's battery levels, it's charge rates, electric car charging, watering/fertilizing of plants and eventually it will control the autonomous multicopters which will perform valuable functions, which will erase "tragedy of the commons".
The computer will constantly monitor all agriculture production, all energy production and give a real time readout to the user. Accessing the MCP will give real time information on current energy production/storage levels and the overall status updated in real time.
The primary use of the MCP will be for public electric vehicle charging. By accessing this touch screen interface you will be able to select you car make/model and then request a charge.
5. Electric Car chargers.
The MCP will let you know how much energy is currently available to be expended on car charging. A strategic reserve of energy will be kept at all times to give an emergency charge to electric car owners to provide them with enough power to go 15 miles. This is the equivalent of a standard reserve tank on vehicles and motorcycles.
During normal operation full charges will be freely available to the public. If a particular SLE experiences more than 2 emergency charges in a 7 day period, the SLE will automatically notify OFH and a specialist will be dispatched to reassess the energy requirements of the SLE. Additional energy production installation will be considered.
Most ULE's will not be able to handle car charging due to the limited space available.
Grid tie-in's will be utilized in certain ULE's with high electric charging demand.
We can not guarantee all grid charging will be free with the technology of today.
